The German airline Lufthansa, one of the world’s most recognisable airline brands, is Europe’s largest operator, carrying more passengers than any other company. The airline operates domestic flights to 18 airports and to nearly 200 destinations in four continents including Africa and North America.
Lufhansa’s origins date from 1926 when Deutsche Lufthansa was formed in Berlin, serving as the national carrier until the end of World War II when the company folded. In 1953 a successor airline was created under the name Luftag, utilising the skills and experience of many staff who had previously worked for Lufthansa, and the airline was rebranded with the Lufthansa name in 1954. Today, Lufthansa operates a fleet of 280 aircraft and owns no less than four subsidiary airlines.
Lufthansa has been recognised for its excellent service with a number of awards, including Europe’s Leading Airline and the World’s Leading Airline Rewards Programme.
