South African Airlines
The largest air carrier in the country, South Africa Airways was formed in 1934. Today, it flies to no less than 37 international destinations in 26 different countries, including the UK and Germany in Europe. Other international services include those to and from the United States, Brazil, Australia, China and India. As well as these inter-continental flights, the airline operates in many other African countries, including Nigeria, Cameroon and Burundi.
South African Airways operates a fleet that includes Airbus A340s, Boeing 737-800s and Airbus A319-100s . It provides some cargo services as well its passenger business. In 2014, 9.3 million passengers were carried by its planes.
Named as the official airline of the Association of Tennis Professionals, South African Airways also runs low-cost domestic services through its subsidiary, Mango. It has won the 'Best Airline in Africa’ award for 11 consecutive years in the regional category.
