Austrian Airlines
Based at Vienna International Airport, which also acts as its main hub, Austrian Airlines is the national flag carrier for the central European country and a member of the Lufthansa group. In 2014 the airline flew 11.2 million passengers to over 130 worldwide destinations, the majority of which are in the northern hemisphere, with additional destinations in India, Asia and North Africa.
Although the Austrian Airlines brand was created in the late 1950s with the merger of Austrian Airways and Air Austria, the company’s history dates from the formation of Austrian Airways in 1923. The current fleet, which consists of 80 aircraft, is undergoing modernisation, with new seats and a fresh cabin design. All long haul aircraft also boast pneumatic full-flat beds in business class and seatback on-demand video in economy class for all passengers.
With a fatal accident-free record since 1960, Austrian Airlines boasts one of the most impressive safety records of modern airlines.
