Finnair, the national airline of Finland, is the Scandinavian country’s largest airline, operating from its hub at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. Over half-owned by the Finnish government, Finnair is the predominant airline operating flights to and from the country, serving in excess of 73 destinations, the majority of which are in Europe.
Originally formed in 1923 as Aero O/Y, Finnair is the fifth oldest airline in the world and is also widely regarded as one of the safest, having suffered no fatal accidents since 1963. The airline’s fleet, which consists of 59 mainly Airbus aircraft, carried Finnair’s highest ever number of passengers in 2014 at 9.6 million.
In recent years, Finnair has received a number of nominations for awards including the World’s Leading Charter Airline and Europe’s Leading Airport Lounge.
