Emirates Emirates Airlines

Emirates, the world’s largest international carrier, is a Dubai-based airline that has established a strong brand image and is renowned for its high quality service. Formed in 1985 as a response to Gulf Air reducing services to Dubai, the airline received heavy financial backing from the Dubai royal family and, to this day, is entirely government-owned.

Since then, Emirates has enjoyed extensive growth, operating 3,300 flights a week from its main Dubai hub to 78 countries and 144 cities across the world. Emirates’ entire fleet consists of wide-bodied aircraft, with the Boeing 777 as its core airliner. In recent years the airline has renewed and expanded its fleet considerably, purchasing 200 aircraft in 2013 and placing orders for 140 Airbus A380s. Its financial success makes Emirates widely regarded as a model for profit growth in the airline industry.

The winner of a number of industry awards, Emirates was voted Airline of the Year in 2013 and has been awarded a four-star rating by aviation group Skytrax.
